QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Question of the Week: Do you have many friends who make a lot more—or less—money than you earn? Do you find it difficult to maintain rich relationships with people who don’t have the same financial resources that you have?
Question of the Week: The last time you got a pay raise, was it because you asked for it and made a case for why you were worth it–or because everyone in the company was getting an annual cost-of-living increase? If you asked for and received a raise, tell us what you said that made the difference.

Question of the Week: Money can’t buy happiness, conventional wisdom says, and that’s good news for those of us who are financially-challenged. Still, sometimes even a little bit of money can buy a very good time. In that spirit, finish this sentence—“The most fun I’ve had spending any amount of money was when I . . .”  We’ll publish your responses in an article next month.

Question of the Week: Are men or women the more generous sex, in your opinion? Who’s the bigger tipper? Who gives more to charity? Who’s more likely to give a buck to a street person?

Question of the Week: One reader recently  wrote in: “I have two teenage daughters  who feel the pinch from paycheck to paycheck  right along with me. I’m hoping I can teach them how to make their money work for them, so they won't have to struggle  as I do and be constantly  stressed  out.”  What tips can you give her for helping  kids better understand  the value of a dollar?
Question of the Week: Salaries are among the best-kept secrets at most companies. Do you know how much money your co-workers and supervisors make—and do you think that openness about salaries would give you more incentive to excel on the job?

Question of the Week: One woman recently wrote in, commenting about the humor piece “Creative Accounting” (Funny Business), “If you have to lie to your husband about what you buy, you need to re-evaluate either your shopping habits or your husband.”

While we agree that honesty is the best policy in matters of the heart and the pocketbook, we wonder how many of you have ever told a little white lie to your husband or significant other about money? 'Fess up.
