FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Making Bread Magazine Chooses NewsStand as Digital Delivery Partner to Serve Financially Savvy Women’s Audience
PHILADELPHIA, PA. & AUSTIN, TX – September 16, 2002 – Women around the world will have greater access to financial information and content specifically tailored to their perspectives with an agreement announced today between Making Bread Magazine, a savvy, sassy online women’s finance magazine, and NewsStand, Inc., a leading provider of digital publishing and delivery solutions. Subscribers to Making Bread Magazine will now be able to download editions via the Internet directly to a personal computer and have the added convenience of reading the digital copy offline anytime or anywhere.
Unlike most publishers who now offer digital versions in addition to their printed publications, Making Bread is committed to delivering their content solely over the Internet. NewsStand offered a complete solution for Internet delivery, digital rights management (DRM) and sophisticated digital reader tools that offer subscribers the experience of reading traditional print formats on a computer screen.
“We’re delighted to be able to utilize this exciting new distribution format to deliver our new kind of women’s magazine to audiences looking for smart ways to manage their money,” says founding editor Gail Harlow. Adds publisher Reggie Owens, “Electronic delivery is where we believe the future of publishing is, and we want to be in the vanguard, giving readers—and advertisers—new solutions to help them achieve their goals.”
Reaching 45,000 women a month and growing, Making Bread chose NewsStand as the fulfillment service required to extend circulation and meet the needs of their customers. Once downloaded, customers can read Making Bread from a home office or the corner café – anywhere they take their laptop. Readers also enjoy the benefits of digital functionality, such as quick scan of 2-page spreads, zoom in for articles of interest, direct jumps to desired sections or page continuations with one click of the mouse and key word search capability.
As part of the business agreement, Making Bread will offer paid digital subscriptions and single copy sales at the discounted price of $15.00 for a yearly subscription (six issues) or $3.50 for a single issue. Customers can purchase the digital publication today at www.makingbreadmagazine.com or through NewsStand’s website, www.newsstand.com.
“NewsStand allows e-zine publishers such as Making Bread to automate and streamline the process of delivering content from processing the files to transacting the purchase to detailed marketing reports,” said Kit Webster, president and CEO of NewsStand. “By utilizing reader formats and subscription models based on traditional print, Making Bread now has the opportunity to utilize ‘push’ as well as ‘pull’ marketing strategies.”
